Mississippi Apprenticeship Program

More Mississippians are securing jobs in in-demand fields that allow them to earn a family-sustaining wage while receiving the training they need to have long and successful careers.

The Mississippi Apprenticeship Program (MAP) helps companies, regardless of size, develop a Registered Apprenticeship (RA) program from the initial concept phase to registration and subsequent implementation within the company. RA offers a unique “earn while you learn” opportunity that leads to nationally-recognized credentials and competitive careers in a wide range of industries, including advanced manufacturing, healthcare, IT/cybersecurity, transportation, utilities, and hospitality. Learn more about how RA can help you reach your career goals.

We worked with the MAP to rebrand the program and develop marketing and communications tools to ensure more families, communities, educational institutions, and businesses were aware of the benefits of apprenticeship and how to learn more about the programs offered across the state. We worked with leaders at the Mississippi Community College board to understand the needs of business and educational institutions who currently offered apprenticeship programs and those wanting to implement the programs and created unique resources to reach different types of industries. The early work included developing materials to help the MAP team gain information from their trusted partners and stakeholders, and facilitating a meeting to get more information about what these leaders thought should be communications and outreach priorities.

Insight.

Apprenticeship programs are changing people’s lives. While working on the project, we engaged with apprentices who were given an opportunity to learn transferable soft skills and gain industry recognized credentials that would help ensure they could secure jobs and take care of their families. We also learned from businesses who saw increases in productivity, talent recruitment and retention, and loyalty after launching a successful apprenticeship program. We began telling these stories and highlighting the impact apprenticeship programs were having on the Mississippi workplace.

Innovation.

The updated branding for MAP incorporates the clean design of corporate organizations and bright colors that are attractive to potential students and job seekers. While we created a brand to appeal to multiple audiences, we took an individual approach to reaching out to students and employers by creating custom marketing materials for youth and other job seekers that included a specific focus on increasing the number of women, people of color, veterans, and people with disabilities in apprenticeship programs. We also created a wide range of materials to appeal to employers from various industries across the state.
